Children with Special Needs
Whether your child has an intellectual or physical disability, the added stress can be difficult on the family. Stepping Stones helps to manage problem behaviour and developmental issues common in children with disability.
Stepping Stones - One on One
A brief face-to-face or telephone intervention with a provider (from areas such as child and community health, education, child care etc.). Approximately four individual consultations lasting between 15 and 30 minutes. Receive tip sheets and a Positive Parenting Booklet to reinforce strategies. For parents of children with special needs. Please indicate the age of child and the behaviours you want to discuss in the email.
Stepping Stones Seminar
Each Select Seminar Series of three topics provides parents with general information about promoting their child’s development and serves as an introduction to Triple P. Each seminar lasts approximately 60-90 minutes with time for questions at the end. These brief introductions to the Triple P strategies provide great ideas to try at home. The topics in the series are:
Positive Parenting for Children with a Disability;
Helping your Child Reach their Potential; and
Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour.
Group Stepping Stones
Groups are made up of 10 to 12 parents who are like you-wanting to encourage development in your child's potential or learning how to manage their behaviours. You can share stories and offer mutual support. The facilitators provide tips and suggestions to fit the needs of each participant. See how the ideas work in real life through videos. Workbooks include the tools and information you talked about in the sessions so you can start positive parenting right away at home. Groups are eight or nine weeks long. There will be up to six group sessions, a couple of weeks of home practice with phone call support and then one final session.
